Welcome to the Sacramento Breeze

If you are a Sacramento-area high school student or and would like to contribute to The SacCounty Breeze, or are a teacher who has students who would like to see their work in ink, please contact Steve O’Donoghue at the  California Scholastic Journalism Initiative, [email protected].

Currently there are 12  area high schools participating in the network. We meet once a month at The Sacramento Bee  (currently on hiatus until the coronavirus emergency ends) for planning and for presentations by professional journalists who work at The Bee.

The SacCounty Breeze is produced by the Sacramento County Office of Education. The copy, photos, art and other contents are written, photographed, drawn or produced by students at Sacramento County public high schools.  Story development is supervised by the journalism advisers at the participating schools.  Professional journalists coach the students and guide their reporting and writing. Staff members of the Sacramento Bee instruct participating students in professional journalism standards and practices.

SacCounty Breeze is a product of the collaboration of philanthropist The Sacramento County Office of Education, the Sacramento Bee, and the California Scholastic Journalism Initiative.

All opinions expressed in SacCounty Breeze are the views of the student authors and do not represent the opinion of the Sacramento Bee,  any school, district or county educational authority, or the California Scholastic Journalism Initiative.

SacCounty Breeze is a product of student journalists and is guided by the tenets of The First Amendment, the ethics guidelines of the Society of Professional Journalists and the rights and responsibilities enunciated in California Education Code sections 48907 and 48950.
