Is feminism inclusive?

Feminism used to be a woman for equal rights with men

In this day and age, it’s hard to find one’s own voice when people are so particular about finding groups they belong in. Feminism used to be a movement that every woman could agree on, but now has turned into something that people make fun of. Saying that it’s full of  “blue haired libs (liberals) screeching about women’s rights”.

As teens we see a common consensus with people among social media platforms, like Tik Tok and Instagram, with big meme accounts poking fun at people in the right and left wing. Making certain stereotypes and saying everyone is a part of that group is just like that certain stereotype and are wrong.

Feminism is one of those groups people are so used to poking fun at. To me, I used to identify as a feminist but now find that that “label” is something that it too different then what it used to be. The reason for that is, I don’t find Feminism to be as inclusive as it used to be anymore.whether you agree with or not, a Feminism is now seen as, most of the time a white woman, pro choice, liberal, and sometimes anti-man. I don’t want to be a part of a group that has turned into such a cut throat group that overall seems to exclude people who have different opinions.

No, I am not saying that every feminist is just that, but it seems to have turned into it. People don’t have to agree with being pro-life or identifying as a republican, but it doesn’t mean that those people aren’t allowed to identify as a feminist. Being pro life and being a feminist seems to be an impossible thing for most people to understand. I myself am not pro life, nor do I identify as a republican but it’s hard to see people get attacked for believing in the opposite thing.

The young people of America have become so desensitized to opinions that don’t agree with theirs. Everyone sees it, liberals attacking republicans and republicans attacking liberals simply for believing in the opposite thing. Being quick to judge is simply a characteristic of human nature that goes down to the core belief of needing to detect danger in our immediate surroundings and attacking or running from it in order to be safe. The fact that such a complex thing like politics has been dumb downed to the fact that we have to detect present danger and then attack it in order to feel safe seems so idiotic to me.

Feminism used to be a woman for equal rights with men. Now it comes along with all these certain attributes, that are somewhat rightly put into place for a reason. It comes down to the fact that if you don’t agree with certain attributes, you are the outlier and shunned from the group. Of course feminism nowadays is much  more inclusive than it ever was during the time it began, including women of color and LGBTQ+ people more than ever.

President of the CKM Fem-Co Sophia Abramsze says, “…Like any movement, feminism has its strength and flaws… and it’s difficult to apply one word, such as “inclusivity” to all of feminism.”

Overall, things like feminism and politics have become a very touchy subject. Respecting people’s opinions is something that everybody has a struggle with, no matter how much someone denies it. It’s important to realize that everyone has feelings and experience that people must respect.
